nexB was founded in 2003 by Michael J. Herzog, Philippe Ombrédanne, and François Granade. Our mission is to provide the tools and services that software organizations need to enable and accelerate component- based software development. Reusing software components is essential for the efficient delivery of software products and systems in every industry. Whether a reusable component comes from an open source project, from a software supplier or from your own development teams, you need enterprise-class systems to manage the use of software components.
We have been helping our customers with software provenance analysis (aka open source auditing) for ten years and during that time we have learned a lot from being in the vanguard of the explosive growth of open source software. Our conclusion from that experience is that most organizations need different tools and processes at the software development level than you need at the enterprise level. We are open sourcing our software provenance analysis tools to enable each development team to identify and manage open source at the codebase level. We also provide DejaCode as an enterprise application and platform for integrating open source and other software component data across products and teams.
